Just going to cut right to the chase here, see end of post for more jabbering from me and explanation for my 3+ month absence ^^
Photos I took from Sydney Supanova 2010 (Saturday). Please excuse the crappy quality of a lot of the photos. Right now I’m borrowing a 1000D from my school library, which is equipped with the shonky Canon 18-55mm lens that comes with the kit T_T;
Enjoy! And please help me name the cosplays I couldn’t identify~

Spot the animes! Hmm... Haruhi, Kuroshitsuji, Bakemonogatari...
Kirstin Dunst stars in “Akihabara Majokko Princess”, a short film by Takashi Murakami and hollywood director McG, where she sings a cover of “Turning Japanese” while dancing around Akihabara, Tokyo in mahou shoujo cosplay.
EDIT: Okay so for the… let’s see… 3rd time, the YouTube version of this video has been deleted.
So please go here to view Akihabara Majokko Princess on Vimeo (where hopefully, it will not be removed).

I stumbled across this real-life PV of Hatsune Miku ‘World is Mine’ recently while browsing YouTube. Some of the lip-synching is a bit off, but otherwise it’s very good ^^. I particularly like how they even have the black and pink checkered blanket… thinking of having one made for my bed. Or I wonder if I can purchase one ready-made anywhere?
I am so excited to have finally gotten my hands on the highly-anticipated Otaku Encyclopedia by Patrick W. Galbraith. Picked this one up from Kinokuniya in Sydney CBD. Continue reading ‘Otaku Encyclopedia’

It's time for SMASH! Day 2, Sunday!
I’ve got to say… The second day of SMASH! was as fun as the first. Sunday was significantly quieter than Saturday, but there were still some familiar faces of other 2-dayers around. This time we got the chance to visit the wonderful Maid Cafe, as the lines were a lot shorter than the day before, as well as watch the cosplay competition.
But just a note for anyone thinking about attending SMASH (who hasn’t attended before) – make sure you go on Saturday, because by Sunday some of the best stuff (e.g. figures) are sold out. I was very, very glad I attended both days, because otherwise I would have missed out on my lovely new Tsukasa figma! =D
And now, as promised… here are my photos from Sunday.
(If you are looking for photos from Day 1, Saturday, see this post)
- DAY 2: SUNDAY -
This Sebastion crossplayer (Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler) was SERIOUSLY AMAZING. She had the cutlery between her fingers, the red eyes - everything. I think she won judges choice in the cosplay competition too, although I think she should have won the entire contest.

My small but decent selection of loot from SMASH weekend (note the Tsukasa figma - will be posting about that later!)
Let me start by just saying SMASH con 2009 was A W E S O M E ! (and Iif you don’t know what I’m talking about, firstly shame on you! But secondly, SMASH! is one of Sydney’s major anime and manga conventions.) I attended with two friends and we were the Shuffle! cosplay group (did anyone happen to see us?) for both Saturday and Sunday. We originally planned for Death Note on one of the days, but wig troubles stopped it from happening. Hopefully we will be doing this for Animania in a few weeks instead! xD And thank you to anyone who said hi or recognized us… or took our photo – which was a heck of a lot! We must have been stopped about 50 times for photos. At one point our group was sitting side by side on a long couch and we were swamped by photographers! So many flashes going off… but it was awesome-fun (we felt like celebrities, lawl.)
ANYWAY… Enough of my jabbering. Here are the best of the Saturday photos (I will be uploading Sunday photos in another post shortly). See if you can spot yourself! So without further delay, please enjoy!
EDIT: Photos from Day 2, Sunday can now be viewed in this post.
- DAY 1: SATURDAY -
This is a first look at the inside of SMASH (the Roundhouse at UNSW). Could already see a couple of Rankas.

You know you’ve been watching too much anime when you realise that you subconsciously notice it everywhere and in everything… even when it’s not really there…
I spotted this at a cafe recently. It’s not even that unusual or anything… (in fact, it’s actually musical terminology)… it’s just that the first bell that rings in my brain is labelled ‘ANIME’. *sigh*
Misa surveys the crowd...
Talk about a delayed post! My friend and I attended SUPANOVA POP CULTURE EXPO (the Sydney one) on 28th June. So yeah… it was kinda over 2 weeks ago now. But it was pretty damn fun. Everyone was really friendly and enthusiastic. My friend crossplayed as L and I was Misa, both from Death Note. It was really great walking around in character (that’s right, my friend hunched over and sucked on a lollipop for hours on end – it was a little tricky for me though since my personality is the polar opposite of Misa’s) and having people approach us for photos or simply to say “L and Misa – Love you guys!”.
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for… PHOTOS!
