Apologies for the lack of regular posts! But guess what? As of today, SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER! And one of my first acts of the holidays was accidentally discovering a wonderful Japanese bakery where I finally got my claws on some real-life melon bread! ^^
Shana would be proud.
Got one for onee-chan too, because I live to give.
Puni puni?
And as for how it tasted, totally different to what I was expecting! It’s a lot more bread-ey than anticipated, but sweeter with a sort of crispy outside. Very nice and perfect for breakfast I imagine.
Anyone else tried meronpan? You like? I’ve been trying to come up with a list of all the best Japanese sweet foods to try, other than the obvious e.g. Pocky so if anyone can think of any good ideas, do share! ^^
Also, anyone notice how the above photos look somewhat different to the ones I usually take? Well kudos if you did because I took them with the Canon EOS 400D I borrowed from my school library for the whole holidays. (My Lumi-chan is crying in the corner from being neglected.) Still experimenting with it so please excuse any random flimsy photos ^^;
Random bonus photo:
Yum. I wanna get me some of that skinfood!

Those melon bread does look yummy (actually, I thought they’re bigger than bite-size). As for sweet food, how about green tea ice cream?
What’s a “skinfood”?… *glares in suspicions*
After googling skinfood, I think it might be a Korean cosmetics brand.
Dang, that’s no fun at all! =P
reminds me melonpan T_T

I guess he named himself after the bread >.>
Wooot! Same Camera as @ScorchnRoses!
Pairing with what lenses?
Dammit ! Melon pan! I’ve yet to try that!!
Ohh really? Cool! ^^
Let’s see… a EFS 18-55mm and a 75-300mm zoom lens ^^
Haven’t tried out the latter as of yet.
Woo 75-300mm! Nice for taking those Upstage stuff!
mmm melon pan, i might have tried that before but i cant remember lol ^^;; what i really what to try is a choco cornet! and and taiyaki! have you tried those?
Choco cornet! I didn’t check to see if they had them at the bakery, I’ll definitely have a look next time. Would also love to try taiyaki, but they might be a bit harder to find…?
Ah melon pan, I wonder when I will get to try it. I wish I had the luck to “discover” places like that shop.
If there is a china town near you it’s easy to discover! ^^
did you find it in your country?
Heck yeah I did! It’s in the city I live in =P in a convenient location too ^^
Hoho how rare to see a store with Japanese’s thing.
There’s only Pineapple Bun here… though I haven’t really looked too hard
Mmm pineapple sounds good.
Mmmm~ Bread Top nomnom~ I tried their spring onion one for the first tine the day I went to see Kamui, pretty yum~ And yes, I’ve tried the melon pan :3
Which Bread Top did you go to? I go to the one in World Square
Yes! That’s where I got it! ^^ How good is the asian supermarket right next to it? =D
Just as good as my local V-Plus~ ;P
Actually, haven’t really browsed much there, I found my local asian supermarket is a bit cheaper and more convenient as I never need any extra snacks once I have my bread collection :q
I haven’t tried real Japanese melonpan yet. I’ve tried authentic Hong Kong style, and HK’s Japanese imitation, but not the real deal…and I only eat them as breakfast or snack too.
What’s wrong with Pocky? Have you tried hunting down all the flavours? I would say Japanese candies and ice-cream are high up on the list as well.
Yeah! I imagine they would be perfect for breakfast~
I actually really love Pocky! =D I’ve tried chocolate and strawberry, would like to try the other flavours, particularly that limited edition orange one, but living in Australia makes it tricky to find an asian supermarket that stocks all of the flavours ^^;
I only found a crappy imitation of it in Hurtsville (mini Chinatown) when I was in Sydney. I’ve still yet to try the real thing. I looked everywhere but couldn’t find it >.<
